Several nights ago I had a breakthrough. I was able to connect a medical respiration belt I had recently purchased with the KASINA app I was building, and link my breathing with the visual field. And it is just as technodelic as it sounds, believe me. This was the culmination of a vision I’d had 8 years prior, when I wrote about the possibility of building a new kind of meditation object, The Breath Kasina:
“In the last approach we proposed using 3D spheres of a solid color as a meditation object. In this approach we continue with the notion of having a visual object, but instead of focusing purely on the visual object we’d also focus on the physical process of breathing. The visual object, instead of being static, would expand and contract along with your physical breath. The intention would be to create a tight enough synchronization between the physical and visual information that one is able to become strongly absorbed in the somatic-visual experience of breathing. The assumption is that by combining both, and using the visual aid, it will be easier for attention to become unified with the object.
Research & Prototyping: With this project I would suggest describing the basic approach with some experts, making an initial prototype, and then bringing it through a series of design iterations.
A more advanced initial prototype would tie together the (as close to) real-time (as possible) data from a breath sensor with the visual orb. A more simple prototype could show what the breathing visual orb would look like and the user can synchronize their breath to the rate of change of the orb. The simple prototype wouldn’t give a complete picture of how this meditation mechanic works, but it would test the validity of combining the changing visual object with the breath. A guided meditation could also be developed to instruct one on how to work with the breathing orb.”
So, as you can see, with the advent of vibe coding I’m now able to realize this long-held vision of creating technodelic meditation objects, the first version of which is the Breath Kasina.
Next up, I’m planning on launching a special Breath Kasina Breathing Kit + Live Training for those that want to be the first to try this new tech out, while getting 10-weeks of weekly live instruction on working with the Breath Kasina as it evolves in real-time in response to your engagement! If you’re interested in being part of this experimental cohort, drop me a line.
